A native of San Luis Obispo, California, Tarren is the fifth generation of her family to live on the Central Coast. Her great-great grandparents settled at their ranch in San Simeon Creek in the early 1860's.
Tarren graduated summa cum laude from Cuesta College and summa cum laude from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Tarren earned her juris doctorate degree from University of California Hastings College of Law in 1987, and she passed the bar exam in 1987.
Tarren has practiced law since 1987, first in firms specializing in civil trials, then opening her own law practice in 1989. Tarren has represented a variety of clients on legal matters: complex civil trials, Land Use and Coastal Act matters - including consulting and Coastal Commission advocacy - Trust Administration, Estate Planning (Wills and Trusts), contracts, and leases.
Tarren served as a Pismo Beach Planning Commissioner, and she is a member of the Board of Directors for the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers.
In 2018, Tarren was appointed by the Board of Supervisors of San Luis Obispo County as a Cannabis Hearing Officer, where she presided over Administrative Law Hearings concerning Land Use and Nuisance matters.
